This is the 32nd year of this Rotorua event put on by the Rotorua/Taupo Branch of NZ Registered Music Teachers.

The adjudicator this year is Justin Bird from Auckland. He will judge the contestants who are of Grade 6 level and higher during the daytime trials when each one will present a 20 minutes programme of contrasting works. There will be pianists, vocalists and other instruments. The daytime trials are free to the public.

At the evening formal concert which starts at 7.30pm the contestants will perform for 4 to 6 minutes a selection from their programme. Mr Bird will then choose six finalists who perform again other pieces from their programme.

He will then choose the winner who will receive $1000 in scholarship money. Second place gets $500, third $300 and the other finalists $100 each. There are also prizes for the Best Piano Solo and the Best 20th/21st century piece and a Best Presentation Cup. So there are prizes totalling over $2000.

The audience will be treated to a high standard of musical performance in this prestigious competition. The evening concert is a paid event.
