Christchurch singer-songwriter Nick Dow, a rising star in the music industry, performs a mélange of new original works from his forthcoming EP (recorded with Ben Edwards in Lyttelton), pieces from his album Layers, and his take on a classic or two.

Utilising vocals, piano, keyboard, and violin, and exploring the elegance in minimalism, Dow’s performance at the Great Hall will recontextualise these works, stripping them back to their essence so that the fundamental beauty within is exposed. In a world constantly shouting for our attention sometimes we need to take a moment to listen to the whispers.

Enjoy Arts Centre hospitality prior to and after the concert at Lumière Cinemas' Bijou bar (open from 5.00pm until 10.00pm).

Nick Dow
Christchurch-raised, Auckland-based singer-songwriter and multi instrumentalist Nick Dow has many strings to his bow.

Whether playing violin for Jamie McDell, or matching the soul and dynamics of breakthrough New Zealand artist Teeks on piano, Nick is able to shine on multiple instruments.

Last year’s Layers LP was his first release of his own songwriting, which proved to be no less beautiful and captivating than any of his work with other, more familiar names.

This year has seen further co-writing with Teeks, as well as spellbinding performances with Teeks and Hollie Smith that have enchanted New Zealand audiences.

Nick is currently completing recordings with acclaimed Christchurch-based producer Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding). Even in its raw form the vocal control, storytelling and delicacy of the piano shines through.
