AJO’s performance at the Jazz & Blues club will feature one or two new band arrangements – hot off the press – a premier insight to the bands next project (still under wraps!). AJO will also feature the material from their 3rd CD project currently being mixed and mastered. The culmination of a long musical friendship with the fabulous vocalist Caitlin Smith; well-known jazz standards including songs by Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, Brooks Bowman and others, all arranged by members of the band.

The Auckland Jazz Orchestra is a 17-piece big band, conceived to play music composed or arranged by NZ musicians. Active since 2009, the band draws from experienced professional musicians and exciting young talent, often working in collaboration with guest artists.

Caitlin Smith is perhaps the most unsung heroine of NZ singers. As a vocal coach she has helped many popular NZ artists in their rise. As a performer, she is renowned for her clarity and vocal range, and expressive performances that cut to the heart of a song. In 2020 Auckland Jazz Orchestra will be touring and performing with Caitlin, in support of their new album, and celebrating more than a decade since the band’s inception by co-leaders Tim Atkinson and Mike Booth.
