Please join us in celebrating the release of View From Elsewhere, a new album by Auckland artist and musician, Charlie (OPI).

Made in relation to the passing of a dear friend, the artist wishes to advise that the content of the album, and of this release event may be triggering for some.

This event will make use of two spaces in adapting the newly released album View From Elsewhere for performance.

Each space engaged with represents a different thinking of time – one representing past and one present. In Charlie’s words: The purpose of this adaptation of the album is to physically explore the sounds captured during a period of grieving, to further find sense and solace in them. To separate current action from past action, current affect from past effect. To make a distinction.

Of the album, Charlie observes:
This is my journey from death, towards death. This is my journey through distance, removal, suffering, silence, loss of faith, of a love.

This is a love song for He who has left us here. To find the things He has left behind for us. To fill the space He left with ourselves.

This is capturing the movements in this new space, this space called elsewhere. Where we have all been before.

This is stepping deep into this space and pulling sounds of the the waters.

This is to talk about suicide, depression, sorrow and deep loss. And finding moments of beauty that it can leave us. To not run from the strength it can give us, to understand.

This is finding purpose for feelings that can not be removed until time takes them.
