It is important that all New Zealand organisations grapple with calling out and dealing immediately with any harmful or offensive behaviour. This is not easy. Many organisations are talking about it, but it takes courage and committed long term action by leaders to make change.
When such programmes are successfully implemented, incidents we all wish did not happen in our workplaces or our community may come to light. This means historical incidents must be addressed, alongside any current issues and proactive education around future behaviour expectations.
In this Diversity Group Meeting, the New Zealand Defence Force will share their approach to tackling their issues head on. The Defence Force speakers will share what they are doing to better support victims and survivors, including making it safer and easier to report incidents. They will talk about the preventative policy, process and culture changes they are making.
They will talk about their progress and how much they have learned from others, but you will also hear them talk about how much more they want and need to achieve to become a safer, more inclusive and diverse organisation.
Attendants will be able to ask questions to help them gain insights into how to take courageous action in their own organisations and will have the opportunity for group discussions about the challenges of addressing this difficult societal issue in the employment relationship context.
