Remarkable Vocals, Queenstown’s own choral ensemble brings another fabulous concert of music through the ages with echoes of familiar songs from the past and resonating with music of today. This ever popular group performs in the Thomas Brown Gallery in Speargrass Flat Road with the backdrop of Thomas’s fine paintings setting the scene for an entertaining afternoon of music.

The concert provides selection of songs for choir from early English Madrigals, through sacred music by Elgar to contemporary show music and a beautiful version of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

There is a bracket of Enya songs and a rendition of Like a Singing Bird overlaid with the Scottish song My Love is Like a Red Red Rose, arranged by Bob Chilcott. The Karl Jenkins Adiemus from of the box-office hit, Avatar reflects the soundtrack’s language and ethnic-style rhythms.

We have guest performers from the choir singing including Wakatipu High School student, Helena Hornbacher, Sally Geddes, Deryck Marshall. One of our our newest singers shows his versatility by joining cellist Lara Laverdure and violinist Lauren Christie with two classical trio pieces.

Sue Patterson directs the group with a wide selection of music from classical through to lighter show pieces. Remarkable Vocals is delighted to introduce pianist Jeanette Robertson’s whose piano accompanying provides just the right support from the dramatic to the sensitive to bring out the best of the powerful programme.

Tickets $40 from Lakes District Museum, Summerfields Pharmacy and Wilkinsons Pharmacy. Entry includes half-time refreshments. It is recommended to pre-purchase tickets as they are usually sold out prior to the day of the concert.
