Rattle your dags! It’s time to salute all things Kiwiana – Uniquely New Zealand.
In this illustrated talk, prolific author Richard Wolfe will discuss his latest publication, co-written with Stephen Barnett, and offer a broad view of Aotearoa’s distinctive character.
The men coined the name “Kiwiana” and it’s 30 years since they produced the first of several books on the subject.
This presentation will highlight the origins and evolution of Kiwiana, and what it might say about New Zealanders and our sense of national identity. In this image-rich overview, we’ll meet colourful characters, products and designs that reflect the development of a local ingenuity and an uncanny ability to “make do”. From pounamu heitiki to the buzzy bee, Sir Edmond Hilary to Fred Dagg, L&P to flat whites, Richard Wolfe will remind us.
