Local Wild Food Challenge - Whakatāne

The Local Wild Food Challenge, a global event held as far afield as Italy, Finland, the United States and even the Chatham Islands, returns to Whakatāne in February 2019.

You can expect live music, activities and workshops for the kids, foodie stalls, kai demonstrations, food trucks, a craft beer garden, and more! An ideal day out and chance to celebrate the Bay’s abundance of wild food, and those people who hunt and gather.

Now in its fourth year and thanks to the resourcefulness of our locals, the Whakatāne Local Wild Food Challenge has gone from strength to strength. Again the Challenge will be held on the shores of the stunning Ohope Beach at Mahy Reserve under the shade of the pohutukawa trees.
