Do you wish there was something you could do to help save the 63 Maui dolphins that we have left? Well there is! There's actually quite a lot that we can each do to help protect these beautiful creatures that are completely unique to New Zealand, starting with a beach clean up.
Beach clean ups are super simple but also super effective considering litter related deaths are responsible for around 100,000 marine mammal deaths and 1 million seabird deaths every year.
I've been organising beach clean ups since March 2014 and it turns out they are a lot more fun than they sound! Not only are we doing something great for our local environment, we're catching up with friends, making new friends, and getting a little of sun and exercise so there's really no reason at all to not join us!
After the clean up this month I would really love to do something a little bit different and use some of the rubbish we find to create a temporary art display on the beach. Not only will this be a bit of fun, it will draw in a lot of attention to what we are doing and why we are doing it so I hope you can stay and join me. If you'd rather just come for the clean up or just the art display then that is 100% okay with me! There's also the option for a shared dinner after if people are interested.
We will provide gloves and buckets, all we ask you to bring is a bottle of water and make sure you're wearing sunscreen and/or a hat - sun safety first! Please keep an eye in the event page for health and safety information coming soon.
