Natacha Riou is an international artist active in Europe and mainly France, who is relocating to Hawkes Bay. Her exhibition of recent work both celebrates her arrival and introduces Natacha as a new prominent artist to the region.
Known as an eclectic painter from Les Beaux Arts school in France, she likes to insert mixed media into her paintings, canvas, or frame. She believe this gives them ‘new life’ as a 3D object.
Natacha works her colours, using a lot of her own natural pigments (some found in Rotorua), while working the form and picture plane to play with light and shadow. Each of her paintings is inspired from her thoughts about eternity and infinity, the complexity and confusion of humans on this planet, and love as a blurry feeling.
