Kare beckons as more than an exhibition; it is a testament to the vitality of creativity, the richness of culture, and the strength of community. As our horizons broaden and our bonds deepen, Kare stands as a beacon of inspiration and innovation, inviting all to share in the magic of its transformative journey.

Evolving from its roots in a successful showcase, Kare has blossomed into a vibrant network of diverse and daring creativity. This year, Kare expands its horizons, inviting local visionaries and ringatoi from every corner of Aotearoa to contribute to its dynamic exhibition.

Central to our offering is our Matariki exhibition, where the essence of ngā iwa o Matariki forms our foundation. Featuring 12 wāhine creatives that uphold the foundation of our kaupapa through diverse art forms that tono to te tau hou Māori.

This year, we pay homage to the legacy of rangatira, Phil Belcher, our tribute captures the essence of his wairua and matauranga. Welcoming two of Phil’s major works serving as a beacon, flanked by a collection of hue entrusted to the hands of 14 ringatoi, all standing as poignant centrepieces.

Kare extends its whānaungatanga to embrace the profound kaupapa of WH/ORCE WH/IELD, a collaborative tāonga featuring 15 ringatoi, dripping with TE IHI TE WHI TE WANA. This ensemble forms a cloak of protection, solidarity, and Mana Motuhake, weaving together threads of resilience and empowerment.

Workshops and Wānanga: We are offering a range of workshops during Matariki — led by skilled Māori and Pacifica artists from across Aotearoa, our workshops cover the contemporary form of weaving, block printing, and raranga pop-in sessions.
Discover the rich cultural heritage of these art forms in an accessible and engaging environment.
