This exhibition of work combines the talents of three local artists: Christine Heaney, Kathie Hands and Carolyn Veen.

Christine: As an accomplished potter and ceramicist Christine’s exhibition is an eclectic mix of function and form, strongly influenced by her formal art training in Graphic and Textile Design. As manager of Creative Napier for 10 years Christine was responsible for a variety of community art events, concerts, shows and exhibitions in and around Napier, and drove the vision to create a home for community arts by raising funds and project managing the refurbishment of the CAN building. Other work includes the pottery feature walls for the Children’s Wards at Hastings Memorial Hospital, and a 5 times successful entrant into the World of Wearable Art.

Since retiring in November last year, as well as smelling the rosé, Christine has had her shoulder to the wheel and fired up the kiln to create this exhibition with the help of two friends…

Kathie and Carolyn: Co-founders of Redefine Design and regional ‘Up-cycling’ award winners.

As masters of reinvention, refurbishment and rejuvenation, their creative energy has been drawn from extensive backgrounds in the fields of art, textiles and furniture design. Their different styles often works to their advantage; ‘We love bouncing ideas off each other and coming up with some amazing results that are often far from the original intention. Everything, no matter how unsightly or broken, has the potential to be useful and beautiful in some form or other.’

With complimentary styles they mix quirk and funk, liberally apply it to retro, then twist tradition and heritage into updated, and ‘uprated’ modernism.

*Sea Change: from Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’.

Please feel welcome to join the artists for their opening celebration, Friday 8 November 5-7pm. Light refreshments will be served!
