Nested between the Manawatu and Tararua mountain ranges and home to an array of native birds and trees, the 11.2km Te Apiti – Manawatu Gorge Track walk is a must-do in Manawatu.

The longest of all the Gorge tracks, the walk is spiritually and physically rewarding, providing you with an opportunity to enjoy native bush, scenic views and wildlife only a short distance from Palmerston North.

Taking you high above the river and Gorge you will walk through a unique landscape of steep greywacke ranges covered in towering trees and thick bush. Guided by members of Forest & Bird you will see an interesting array of native plants including tawa and podocarp, as well as nikau palms.

Along the route there are five viewpoints allowing you to tower above the trees and glimpse the beauty of the gorge from above. From the river, to the railway, the reserves, and Manawatu’s iconic wind farms on the Tararua and Ruahine Ranges, you’ll be able to see all Te Apiti has to offer.

Please ensure that you wear appropriate walking footwear, bring warm clothing, and pack plenty of adequate drink and food.
