Discover an enchanting installation of light sculptures and artworks illuminating one of our very favourite places.

Te Tairāwhiti, the place where the sun first shines, where our people are first to be energised its rays, and where the light dances and shimmers across the horizon as though to verses unheard.

We have a magical relationship to light, so what better way to honour that than to use its transformative power to turn Marina Park into a playful and charming space for children young and old.

Rug up and brave the cool spring evenings, wonder at the glow of art in the dark, linger a while and enjoy the company of others, and delight in pop up performances from some of the region’s best-loved artists.

Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival
Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival is the Gisborne region’s new flagship contemporary arts and cultural event, taking place, for the first time, from 4-20 October this year. Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival will deliver performance events by hundreds of performers from across New Zealand and the Pacific.

The festival celebrates what it means to be of Tairāwhiti and of Aotearoa. It reflects and celebrates the people of the Gisborne region and the East Coast. It reinforces the importance of people and place, and further affirms the region’s strong position in the creative landscape of Aotearoa.
