The spiritual path is not easy as we face many obstacles and hindrances. The five spiritual qualities were taught to help overcome the hindrances, for when they are developed together these qualities become the ‘five powers’.
The Five Spiritual Powers is one of the seven sets of qualities to the development of the ‘awakened mind’. The goal of studying Buddhism is to understand the nature of the mind and to understand the nature of reality, to obtain true happiness. The term to become ‘enlightened’ means to ‘awaken the mind’. On what is referred to as the spiritual path is to develop the mind in all the positive (enlightened) qualities.
