A concert for the whole family, featuring an eclectic programme of music by our talented young musicians. First up is Peter and the Wolf by Serge Prokofiev, a symphonic fairytale for children that introduces them to the instruments of the orchestra through characters of the story. Narrated by orchestra member, Dean Holdaway this will be a crowd favourite.

The Typewriter by Leroy Anderson features an unusual percussion instrument as soloist, the old fashioned typewriter! Considered by some to be one of "the wittiest and most clever pieces in the orchestral repertoire" this piece is always great fun to perform and listen to.

The UC CYO Concert Band will perform Riverdance arranged by Bill Whelan which will highlight all the great Celtic melodies from the well known show.

Finally the concert brings together the two genres of symphony and pop with the first movement from Concerto for Group and Orchestra written by Jon Lord and Ian Gillan of Deep Purple fame. This piece was first performed by Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Malcolm Arnold on 24 September 1969.

An exciting concert and a great way for our wonderful musicians of the UC Christchurch Youth Orchestra to finish a wonderful year of music.
