Auckland Heritage Festival Geoheritage Walk – Maungarei/Mt Wellington

Maungarei/Mt Wellington is the second youngest volcano among the 53 volcanoes of the Auckland Volcanic Field. It is one of the most prominent scoria cones in the city with panoramic views over east Auckland. Geologist and author Bruce Hayward will lead a 3 km walk around and over the cone and along part of the Stonefields Heritage Walk pointing out rock exposures and landforms and explaining how they together tell the story of the volcano's eruption 10,000 years ago.

Rated as relatively easy with 3 km walk, some steep, bring rain and sun gear, drink and cell phone.
