The Beethoven Violin and Piano Sonatas - A Central Otago celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth.

NZ violinist Justine Cormack and American pianist Kate Boyd perform the final concert in their 3-concert series featuring Beethoven’s 10 violin and piano sonatas. Every sonata is a unique gem and these performances are a fabulous way to experience and celebrate both Beethoven’s compositional evolution as well as his unquestionable creative genius.

Programme 3: Queenstown

Sonata no. 4 in a minor, op. 23
Sonata no. 5 in F major, op. 24 ("Spring")
**
Sonata no. 10 in G major, op. 96

The three concerts in this series have been structured to be enjoyed as stand-alone performances, but our fervent hope is that many will take the chance to experience the magnificence of the entire cycle.

Other performances:
Programme 1: Sonatas 1, 6 and 9 ("Kreutzer"), Friday 14 Feb, 7.30pm, Bannockburn Coronation Hall
Programme 2: Sonatas 2 , 3, 7 and 8, Saturday 15 Feb, 7.30pm, Lake Wanaka Centre

Justine Cormack, Violinist

As a freelance violinist, Justine collaborates broadly as soloist, chamber musician, guest-concertmaster and orchestral violinist. Through her Creative Performance Coaching business ListenFeelPlay Justine supports musicians worldwide to maximise their performance success and enjoyment through insightful mind+body awareness.

From 2002 to mid-2017, as a founding member and violinist of NZTrio, Justine was instrumental in the commissioning and performing of close to 40 works from NZ composers, proudly showcasing these compositions within the trio's diverse programmes on the world stage. This commitment and passion for promoting New Zealand music saw the trio honoured with a KBB Music/CANZ citation in 2012 and the Lilburn Trust Citation in 2017 for outstanding services to New Zealand Music.

An active recording artist, Justine recently released a recording of Douglas Lilburn’s Piano and Violin Duos with New Zealand’s beloved pianist Michael Houstoun. During her time with NZTrio, the group built up a varied catalogue of recordings resulting in many nominations for awards over the years. Their collaborative ‘classical- meets-jazz’ album, Vicissitudes with the Mike Nock Trio, was nominated as a finalist for Best Jazz Album in the 2017 Jazz Awards and their CD Sway won the ‘Classical Artist of the Year’ award in the 2017 Vodafone Music Awards.
