Cantabrian violinist, Dr Martin Riseley, CSO Concertmaster, joins with Cantabrian Professor Terence Dennis in a performance of two wonderful violin sonatas by Beethoven, nos 7 & 10. The concert is dedicated to a ship, the 'Charlotte Jane', and commemorates the 'birth of Canterbury'. On the morning of 16th December 1850, the 'Charlotte Jane', the first Canterbury Association emigrant ship from England, arrived at Lyttelton. In Germany on16th December 1770, exactly 250 years ago, Ludwig van Beethoven's was born. Canterbury was NZ's most visionary foundation and Beethoven is considered to have been music's most visionary composer.

The John Robert Godley Memorial Trust (named after 'The Founder of Canterbury') owns Lansdowne Homestead and Gardens and is producing this concert in the Homestead's spectacular Golden Room. The Golden Room is well known for its annual performances of Narropera (narrated opera). However, this will be the first purely instrumental concert to be presented in The Golden Room. Off-street parking in spacious grounds. The Bicycle Thief Italian restaurant, at the entrance to Lansdowne, will be open for refreshments before and after the concert.
