Last year over 100 speedway cars, drivers and crews from all over the South Island converged on Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway to scorch the clay in tribute to immediate past-president Daryl Ainsley who in May 2018 was tragically taken far too soon. And like Daryl always did, these drivers gave 110 percent to be their class winner of the inaugural Daryl Ainsley Memorial Trophy.

As well as some 20 ‘winged demon’ 900 horsepower sprintcars competing in the final of the Civil Construction 2019-2020 Southern Sprint Car Series, this season's action-packed, eye-wateringly exciting Daryl Ainsley Memorial Meeting features more than 20 flame belching, snarling super saloons; 18 low and wide V8 saloons; a good field of Commodore powered six shooters (aka wingless sprint cars); 27 youth ministocks and 24 zippy productions that include recently crowned 1NZ Brad Johnston and 2NZ Matt Sherlock.

The racing format is a teams event with a driver from each grade in each team. To level the playing field, teams are selected to have a mix of experienced, up and comers and rookie drivers.

But wait there's more!

The 2020 Daryl Ainsley Memorial Meeting has attracted some 30 stockcars to biff 'n bash on the Cromwell clay. Club vice president Andy Reddy is on the money when he describes stockcars as like youth ministocks on Viagra(R). Weighing in at around 1470kg, stockcars are no slugs, so when they hit, they hit hard. Among the guys and two ladies competing is current SI Stockcar Champion Colin Cameron who Andy says has been driving stockcars under the number 107 for so long he's got to be on a pension. Whether Andy's right or wrong, Colin is obviously one tough dude.

Adding to the entertainment is a pedal-powered shearing competition, live music, hot dogs, burgers, hot chips and Mr Whippy ice cream.

Looking forward to seeing you there! Saturday, March 21. Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway. Sandflat Road (off SH6) Cromwell. Racing starts 4pm. Spectator gates open 1pm.
