Whoop Piha and Karekare! Trumpets and turntables are coming to the Piha Bowling Club for a mid-winter dance on Saturday August 22nd! Saxophones, vintage electric pianos, congas, gleaming brass, simmering cabasas, humming synths and stacks of burnished vinyl from Tina Turntables impeccable rare-groove collection will ring out among the nikaus. The misty, salty West Coast air will resound with rhythms from around the world as Auckland's hottest new act Love Square take you on a musical journey from Africa to Aotearoa via the Caribbean. Fresh from being announced at this year's Others Way festival and bound for the Waiheke Jazz Festival next year, it's a unique chance to see this hot ensemble in your own back yard.

Supergroove and Hopetoun Brown saxophonist Nick Atkinson brings along his good buddy and adventuring partner Finn Scholes of Carnivorous Plant Society fame. Not only is Scholes arguably the finest trumpeter in NZ, he's also a wonderful and expressive pianist with an arcane collection of antique synths and electro-mechanical pianos for your listening pleasure. They're joined by an outstanding new drummer on the scene, Karen Hu. She's been wowing inner city crowds with her effortlessly funky touch on the skins and hats. Lean in close and she'll flam a rimshot right up in your aroma! Expect two outstanding sets from Love Square with DJ Turntables holding it down into the night for your dancing pleasure! C'mon out Piha and Karekare, let's see your moves!
