As part of the 2020 Naenae Matariki Festival, the Naenae Residents' Association hosts a discussion on the importance of knowing and sharing local histories.
Hon Chris Hipkins, Minister of Education, will discuss the government's decision in 2019 to embed local history into the New Zealand curriculum.
Historian Vincent O'Malley, who recently authored 'The New Zealand Wars | Ngā Pakanga o Aotearoa', will discuss how we can accurately teach New Zealand's colonial history in schools and commemorate it in public places.
Local Hutt City Councillor Andy Mitchell will talk about how Council can share local history through initiatives such as museums, street names and signage.
