A horn recital featuring Anita Austin, with Amy Hsu on piano playing works from Mozart and Strauss to Krol and Bujanovsky.

Anita Austin - Horn
Anita is an Auckland based freelance French Horn performer and brass teacher. In 2019 she graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane with a Masters in Music Studies (French Horn) as well as The Griffith Award for Academic Excellence in both years of study. She previously completed a Bachelor of Music (Hons.) majoring in Classical Performance, French Horn in 2017 at the University of Auckland where she was also awarded an Auckland University Summer Research Scholarship that looked at teaching brass to 5-7 year olds via age-appropriate pedagogies. In 2015 she spent a semester exchange at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

​Anita has undertaken professional development through the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Internship (2019), New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Fellowship (2017) and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Internship (2016). In 2019 she performed Strauss' Horn Concerto No. 1 with Devenport Chamber Orchestra and Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 4 with Wairua Sinfionetta.

Anita has worked as a freelance horn player in both New Zealand and Australia including Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, Hawkes Bay Orchestra, Festival Opera Orchestra and Auckland Chamber Orchestra. She has previously been principal horn of the Auckland Youth Orchestra, NZSO National Youth Orchestra and The University of Auckland Symphony Orchestra. In early 2020 she presented a series of solo recitals , 'Horn Vignettes', with pianist Camila de Oliveira.

Amy Hsu - Piano
Born in Taiwan and raised in New Zealand, Amy completed her studies at the University of Auckland under the tutelage of Stephen de Pledge and David Guerin at the end of 2017.

During her studies, Amy spent a large portion of her time working with musical theatres in Auckland. Some of her involvements include productions of West Side Story, Evita, Mamma Mia and Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. In September 2016, she made her musical directorship debut in Manakau Performing Art’s production of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.

In both 2016 and 2017, she was a recipient at the Anna Nathan Prize in Early Keyboard.
Upon the completion of her studies, Amy has been performing internationally and exploring a variety of musical styles on cruise ships, with artist such as Brazilian pianist/conductor Rogerio Tutti, Irish Musician of the Year Jonathan Johnston, Australian singer-songwriter Chantelle Delaney and Eurovision semi-finalists Emperors of Soul.
