The Waitaki Whitestone Geopark presents:
Oamaru's Little Blue Penguin. From trespasser to icon.

- After first being excluded from the Oamaru Harbour quarry, the little blue penguins have thrived in Oamaru.
- The penguins are well-protected, and long-term monitoring of their breeding shows them to be very successful.
- The Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony and its research programme have become nationally and internationally recognised.

A presentation by Dr Philippa Agnew
Philippa has worked at the Colony for almost 14 years, in a role that is research and environment focused. Her PhD work examined the foraging behaviour of the penguins, and this research is ongoing. Prior to working at the Colony, she worked at the Royal Albatross Centre and carried out a Master’s degree studying the little blue penguins at Taiaroa Head.

Oamaru Library, 62 Thames Street, Oamaru and live on our Facebook page.

Due to COVID-19 Alert Level restrictions, we are running the talk digitally as a Facebook Live video on our Facebook page.
