Christopher Hainsworth, Organiste Titulaire of Béziers Cathedral in France, returns to Norma, the Dunedin Town Hall organ, with a lively programme featuring music by composers with significant anniversaries in 2019 and 2020: Ludwig Van Beethoven, Jacques Offenbach, Franz von Suppé, Leopold Mozart, Clara Schumann, Louis Vierne, Charles Tournemire and Henri Vieuxtemps.
Norma’s orchestral colours will be highlighted in popular favourites including von Suppé’s Light Cavalry overture, and music from Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, with Rossini’s overture The Thieving Magpie as a bonus opening number.
A former associate professor at Waikato University, and Director of Béziers Conservatoire, Christopher was brought up in Wellington and returns to New Zealand frequently to perform, and is looking forward to becoming re-acquainted with Norma the organ.
