Taranaki National Art Awards is a National Art Competition and exhibition held in Opunake, South Taranaki. We have 372 pieces of art from 260 artists from all over New Zealand. Ōpunakē’s Taranaki National Art Awards, is a highlight of our regions creative calendar. In its 19th year, this annual event is a national competition offering an opportunity for artists to exhibit and sell their artwork with the added bonus of a $10,000 prize pool. All entries are displayed in the exhibition held at Sandfords Events Centre, The Taranaki National Art Awards are presented and judged in seven sponsored categories: Painting, Taranaki Artists, 3D, Works on Paper, Fibre Art, Tō Taranakitanga and Photography.
The exhibition opens to the public the morning after the awards ceremony, held on the 30th October. The Taranaki National Art Awards runs in alignment with the Taranaki Garden Fringe Festival, Taranaki Garden Festival, The Great Ōpunakē Yarn Bomb, Ōpunakē Film Festival, Arts Fest South Taranaki, Oakura Arts Trail and the Taranaki Arts Trail. Our exhibition can see up to 2000 who are invited to view and purchase artwork.
