Discover the artistic, beachside community of Pōrangahau when Flotsam and Jetsam team up with talented local artists for a showcase of arts, crafts and kai on the lawn at Flotsam and Jetsam. Celebrate talented local artists, browse beautiful crafts and enjoy delicious kai before meandering along to the Pōrangahau Town Hall for EMOH, an immersive, collaborative installation that explores the environment of the Pōrangahau coast. This is a reflective vision of ‘home’, connecting spaces between land and sea.
The installation features photography by Sarah Hunter (Transmit) printed on origami paper, lightshades by Juliet Black (Blacklight) and environmental recordings by sound artist Dr Thomas Voyce (Rhombus).
Wellington-based creative and director, Sarah Hunter was raised on the Pōrangahau coast. An alumna of Pōrangahau School, she was a recipient of the school’s Dan Brabner Award and used the $50 prize money to purchase her first camera.
EMOH will be exhibited at the Pōrangahau Memorial Community Hall at the start of Labour Weekend, 22-23 October, culminating in a special edition EMOH installation accompanied by Rhombus Sound System DJ set at Pōrangahau Country Club on the Sunday evening, 24 October. Entry is free.
EMOH is made possible thanks to Wild Creations, a joint initiative by Creative New Zealand and Department of Conservation that supports artists to engage with nature and conservation. Special thanks also to Pōrangahau School and Flotsam and Jetsam.
