Dunedin Fringe

Back for the first time in 8 years, 2019 Fred Award Winner James Nokise returns to Dunedin Fringe with his brand new show.

Joyful, daring, and undeniably sharp, Nokise’s fast-paced stand-up brings the full ridiculousness of 2020 into focus, as this critically-acclaimed, international festival-hopping comedian finds himself unexpectedly home again for the craziest year in recent history.

Covering a thrilling whirlwind of topics with skilful ease and exhilarating energy, Nokise’s brand of joyously cathartic stand up will twist its way into your psyche and leave you delighted.

James Nokise is much more than a stand-up comedian - he's also an award-winning theatre maker and playwright, who tours the International Fringe Festival Circuit, and has performed successful seasons in Edinburgh, Perth, New York City, and even Norway. His extensive nominations and awards include being twice nominated for the Billy T James Award, and receiving Best Comedy the last time he appeared at the Dunedin Fringe Festival, for his show Let's Talk About the Golliwogs (2014).

In 2019, James won the Fred Award, which recognises the best New Zealand show in the NZ International Comedy Festival, and in 2020 his critically acclaimed podcast, Eating Fried Chicken in the Shower (RNZ), was nominated for the Voyager Media Award.

This is a performer at the top of his game.
