The New Zealand Male Choir is performing at First Presbyterian Church 155 Tay Street, Invercargill with the Southland Girls’ High School ‘Femme’ and Invercargill’s 'The Ensemble' on Sunday 26th September 2021 3.00 pm.

The joy of singing in a choral setting is what brings the New Zealand Male Choir and the two Invercargill choirs together for an afternoon of music. The choirs will perform separately and together so you get to hear the widest variety of sound. They will present music from modern shows to opera, from Negro spirituals to an old Irish air, from Sting to Handel. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear mixed choral singing at its best.

The New Zealand Male Choir is an auditioned choir with over 60 members from Southland to North Auckland, of which 34 will be on tour. Conducted by Hawkes Bay’s Joe Christensen, the Choir sing a range of music including classical, folk, waiata, gospel, operatic, popular, jazz, and contemporary.

The Choir have entertained audiences both nationally and internationally for the past 22 years including several tours throughout Europe, Australia, and Canada. The Choir practises with North Island and South Island groups meeting monthly and collectively meet for tours or concerts three or four times a year. This will be the fourth concert in an eighteen-day concert tour around the central and lower South Island.

Southland Girls' High School 26 strong choir 'FEMME' were selected as one of the 24 national finalists at the 2021 NZCF Big Sing National Finale. This incredibly talented group of performers were meant to travel to Christchurch to go against the best in the country - girls and boys. However, this was put on hold due to the recent Covid-19 lockdown. The make the final 24 is no mean feat as, nationally, they were competing against about 10,000 students and 250 school choirs from around New Zealand. Their selection was the result of hard work , talent and commitment to the group. The choir's directors Sarah Rae and Peter de Blois are assisted by accompanist Sarah Sarfaiti.

The Ensemble is a small adult mixed choir well known around Southland with a big reputation for giving quality performances. Local member Roger Brown will be having a busy time at the concert performing with both The Ensemble and New Zealand Male Choir.

All three choirs are looking forward to entertaining Invercargill and surrounding districts and give the promise of an enjoyable and memorable afternoon of music and song.

Tickets are available on the Eventfinda website or at the door. $20. Eft-Pos available.
