Celebrating its 35th Season in 2022, the New Zealand String Quartet has established an international reputation for its insightful interpretations, compelling communication, and dynamic performing style. The Quartet is known for its imaginative programming and for its powerful connection with audiences of all kinds.
In Programme 1, the warmth of Haydn’s ‘Sunrise’ Quartet is the perfect overture to the tui calls of the Marlborough Sounds that inspired Gareth Farr’s Te Koanga. Ligeti’s stimulating String Quartet No. 1, ‘Métamorphoses nocturnes’, brings contrasts of light and dark, before the ever-popular Dvořák’s String Quartet Op. 51.
