Khachaturian (arranged for percussion) - Sabre Dance
Khachaturian - Concerto for Flute
Anthony Ritchie – A Bugle will Do
Brahms – Symphony No.2 in D major, op.73

Timothy Carpenter - Conductor
Isabella Gregory - Flute

The New Zealand Secondary Schools Orchestra (NZSSSO) runs for six days during which time the students prepare to perform a full orchestral programme, guided by guest conductor Timothy Carpenter.

On Saturday April 24th they will present the culmination of a week of intense work. This gala concert is a not to be missed experience and truly showcases the extraordinary talent of our young musicians.

The exciting 'Sabre Dance' by Khachaturian is arranged for percussion and gives a heady start to the concert. Khachaturian’s work is further explored as we are treated to his beautiful, lyrical flute concerto featuring soloist Isabella Gregory. Rounding off the first half of the concert is Anthony Ritchie's 'A Bugle will do’, written to commemorate the death of one of New Zealand's famous war heroes, Sir Charles Upham.

The Brahms 'Symphony No.2 in D major, op.73', a cheerful, almost pastoral piece will round off a wonderful evening of varied, dramatic and engaging works.
