A new generation of contemporary women artists, including ethical taxidermists, jewellers, painters, photographers, textile and installation artists, will be taking over the rooms of Katherine Mansfield’s childhood home. The exhibition and event series 'Still Life | Wild Places' is inspired by Mansfield’s life, writing and beliefs – in particular, that humans were intrinsically linked to, and part of, the natural world.

Artists Antoinette Ratcliffe, Karley Feaver, Hayley Theyers, Jane Thorne, Paola King-Borrero, Lauren Drescher and Steph Lusted will explore these concepts, and transform the domestic spaces of the 1888 home into a series of curious new settings that are informed by Mansfield’s life and works. They will incorporate ethical taxidermy installations, refurbished dolls’ houses and vintage girls’ annuals, photographic prints, large scale mobiles and ethereal projections, offering visitors an opportunity to pause and reflect on our relationship to each other, to the natural world and to the animals that we live alongside.

Entry to the exhibition is included in admission to Katherine Mansfield House & Garden. The admission fee directly contributes to maintaining and caring for our Category I Historic Place and its collection.

'Still Life | Wild Places' is presented by The Metropolitan Club, in association with Hendrick’s Gin, and Katherine Mansfield House & Garden. Supported by the Oroya & Melvin Day Charitable Trust.
