This week featuring local saxophonist and composer Jasmine Lovell-Smith.
Saxophonist and composer Jasmine Lovell-Smith returns to the Rogue with her unique brand of lyrical modern jazz. Praised by NZ Musician for her "intriguing intersection of avant-garde art music and chamber jazz," Jasmine"s music combines songlike melodies and finely etched counterpoint, inviting spontaneous interaction from the members of her ensemble.
After a number of years based in New York, Connecticut and Mexico, Jasmine rejoined the Wellington scene in 2017. Recent projects have included the Noveltones, works for composers' collective the Arthur Street Loft Orchestra, and commissions for the Wellington Jazz Festival and Stroma.
For this performance, Jasmine will perform with a quintet of key collaborators from the Wellington scene.
