Organist and Director of Music Michael Stewart celebrate the 400th anniversary of the death of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, one of the most influential composers of the early Baroque. Known as the ‘Orpheus of Amsterdam’ and the ‘Maker of Organists’, Sweelinck was among the first major composers for the keyboard and was revered as the teacher that founded the North German organ school that led to such names as Buxtehude and JS Bach.

Michael will perform Sweelinck’s complete works of keyboard, both on the harpsichord and the organ, in this series of nine recitals. Suggested donation is $10, with all proceeds going towards the ongoing maintenance of the Cathedral Music Department.
