Papakura and the surrounding districts have a long and unique military history. Much of the existing material focuses on the presence of the Papakura Military Camp, now SAS base. However, the Airforce base at Ardmore also formed a large part of this history and offers a unique insight into the experience of young local men training to fly and fight in the Pacific during World War Two.

The Warbirds exhibition takes a look into the experiences of people who trained at the Ardmore base, what they flew, and how they contributed to the war effort in the Pacific and beyond. Many of the type of aircraft that they trained and fought in now forms the Warbirds Association at Ardmore collection.

This exhibition is presented in collaboration with the NZ Warbirds Association at Ardmore and Ardmore Airport, offering a locally based exhibition, by locals, about locals, and for locals. Talks and tours will be on offer.
