Join Glendowie author Stephen Johnson for the launch of his new historical novel, Peace Stick.
This is a story of innocence and hope set in East Germany during Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.
It was inspired by a school girl in Erfurt who wanted to survive the nuclear confrontation
between the Soviet Union and the United States. She created a peace stick to save herself
and the world. Sixty years later, she now lives in St Heliers, Auckland.
Stephen's two previous thrillers were published by Clan Destine Press in Australia.
Tugga's Mob was a finalist in the 2020 Ngaio Marsh Awards for Best First Novel. The judges called it
"an enjoyable thriller entwined with the classic antipodean OE.
Well written with its mix of prose, diary entries, and news commentary."
The sequel, Boxed, is set in the worlds of animal rights activism and television current affairs.
The Weekend Australian Review called it "a fast-paced, well-plotted crime thriller...darkly funny."
