Chenrezig is the embodiment of all the Buddhas’ compassion, the wish for beings to be free from suffering.
When compassion is cultivated, it gives rise to many other good qualities, such as forgiveness, tolerance and the confidence to overcome fear and insecurity. His Holiness the Dalai Lama says that compassion lies at the heart of the Buddhist path.
The Chenrezig practice will be done in conjunction with the 8 verses of thought transformation, a short text aiming to transform self-centeredness into a generous attitude of embracing the welfare of all beings.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche says, ‘Without compassion you can’t have the realisation of bodhicitta, you can’t enter the Mahayana path, you can’t achieve enlightenment, you can’t achieve the infinite qualities of the holy body, holy speech and holy mind of Buddha. Without great compassion you can’t do perfect work for sentient beings, bringing them to enlightenment’.
An Introduction to the Buddhist path will be included making this course and retreat accessible for those new to Buddhism and for existing students. Some experience of deity meditation is preferable but not essential.
This retreat connects Christmas with the new year and offers an opportunity to relate to these days in the wisest and most healthy way so as complete the year well and start the new year with an altruistic mind.
This retreat will include a Light offering 31 December 2022 10pm
Light dispels darkness, and in a similar way wisdoms dispels ignorance and compassion dispels narrow minded self-centredness. In engaging in the light offering practice on the 31st of December there is an opportunity to complete 2022 in a positive way and start the new year well.
