Situated in harbourside Eastbourne village in Te Whanganui-a -Tara (Wellington) STUDIO TORU is a workshop, studio and gallery.
STUDIO TORU welcomes you to Aimée and Beth’s first collaboration. Aimée McLeod’s pottery has shapes that evolve naturally, not by design. Her work naturally progresses from one to the next, which then suggests a theme. Beth’s art is contemporary and spontaneous, with chaos underlying structural elements.
Beth is an emerging artist working from her studio in Khandallah, Wellington NZ. She works with a variety of mediums including charcoal, pastels, acrylic and oil. Her current focus is contemporary work in oil and coldwax.
She first became interested in art while living in Holland, continuing classes while in The Bay of Islands. After a move to Wellington, she has formalised her commitment and completing her art education at The Learning Connexion. She is also a member of New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts
Potting since the early 90s, and learning from many wonderful and generous potters, Aimée McLeod completed her Diploma of Arts (Ceramics) through Australia National University Canberra in 2004.
Wheel throwing, coiling, playing with slabs of casting slip are all techniques I use in my work. From functional to sculptural my output is varied and prolific. Shapes are always evolving naturally, not by design, progressing from one to the next which then suggest a theme.
