Leading figures from the Dunedin and Christchurch Jazz scenes collide for this one-off gig at Fat Eddies featuring the original music of pianist Bill Martin. Having recently released a live album of his original compositions titled "Over to You", the director of the Dunedin Jazz Club brings Nick Cornish (alto) and Gwyn Reynolds (tenor) back together again to perform in a smaller, more intimate format with local rhythm players Michael Storey (double bass) and Mitch Thomas (drums). This all-star band will perform some tunes from the piano trio album "Dark Water", new compositions, as well as standards from the Great American Songbook. Working in the acoustic piano tradition of Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans, Martin's compositions also draw on the influences of Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk to present angular melodies and interesting harmonies for the modern listener.
