Tyrone Te Waa and Reece King, dubbed, TyronnosauReece, bring together the show Circle Turtle.

TyronnosauReece seeks to “share their observations of the world through a veil of humour and playful performativity”, explored through painting and gallery installations.

“I’ll play it first and tell you what it means later”
- Miles Davis

Tyrone Te Waa born 1992, is a studio-based artist who works predominantly with found materials including fabric, wood, and paint. Living and working in Tāmaki Makaurau, Tyrone completed his Master of Creative Practice at Unitec in 2021. During his time at Unitec, he was involved in group exhibitions such as Farewell to Fingers and curated the show Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua at Unitec’s Gallery One. More recently Tyrone’s work has been seen in exhibitions from Clingwrap at Sanc Gallery, to A New Net: Four Early-Career Māori Artists at Tim Melville Gallery, where he assembled intuitive gallery installations of bound bust positioned on wrapped timber support structures.

Reece King was born in Tāmaki Makaurau in 1989 and brought up at Te Henga on the west coast. In 2020 King was one of the founders of Auckland ‘painter-run’ space, Sanc. He completed a Masters in Painting at Unitec in 2021. During the last four years, he has had group and solo exhibitions at artist-run initiatives around Aotearoa, a solo exhibition at CoCA Toi Moroki Centre of Contemporary Art, Christchurch, two solo exhibitions in Sydney and two with Anna Miles in Auckland.
