Join us for the opening preview of a beautiful new group exhibition - Carrie Carey, Denise Durkin and Kirsty White are three printmakers celebrating their love for our national treasure, our native bush. Nga Taonga o Te Ngahere.

6 to 8pm, Tuesday 4 October at Mitchell Studios Fine Art Gallery & Creative Agency, 15 Ganges Road, Khandallah, Wellington

Carrie Carey
Inspired by bush walks in and around Wellington, I use fresh, playful colours and patterns in my prints. I strive to produce unique images that capture the magic of the New Zealand bush, taking the viewer on a journey too.
I have been a printmaker from an early age, always experimenting and playing with processes, breaking with tradition and exploring new ways of making. My current work marries my love for the outdoors with innovative print processes – essentially a one-off printed painting with a hand-drawn image screen printed over the top.

Denise Durkin
It is alarming how fragile the protections of our land and forests are. Already precarious, they are one political change away from being breached in many areas for commercial gain, farming, production and insatiable urban spread.
I am a full-time artist and an art tutor at Inverlochy Art School where I have contributed to the life drawing community since 2001. My works in Our Taonga, Our Native Bush continue the use of the corrugated iron shape, referencing historic and current impacts of human habitation on the environment.

Kirsty White
Nga taonga o te ngahere, treasures of the forest...
New etchings and new paths by printmaker Kirsty White.
Working as a printmaker from my Lyall Bay studio, I have travelled the Wellington coastline and beyond with my sketchbooks, not only drawing but researching the history. From archaeological diggings to favoured fishing bays and associated kai of individual areas, I have tried to learn as much as I can. This process of understanding history before making art has set me up for developing my unique style, which is also heavily influenced by our position here in the Pacific.

Our Taonga, Our Native Bush will remain on display until Saturday 29 October and be available to view on our website once the exhibition has commenced.
