Viereinigkeit Quartet was formed in 2019 and consists of a vibrant, talented group of musical friends. Zosia Herlihy-O’Brien (violin), Weihong Yi (violin), Jessie Anderson (viola), and Vincent Chen (cello) are currently mentored by James Yoo and Mark Bennett.

At the heart of the ensemble they value tonal cohesion and faithfulness to the intention of the composer. While ‘classical’ works are a staple of their repertoire, they also explore works of New Zealand composers. In early 2020, Viereinigkeit was scheduled to perform the world premiere of Dame Gillian Whitehead’s work, ‘Weaving Time And Distance’, as part of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Beethoven 250 festival. While this concert was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, the quartet had the pleasure of working alongside Dame Gillian in preparation for the performance.

Just some other achievements to date are: twice consecutive winners of the Carl and Alberta Rosenfeldt Prize in Chamber Music: the University of Auckland prize for the most outstanding group in Chamber Music assessments; winning the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Aspiring Musician Ensemble; and they are the 2020/21 winners of the Pettman/Royal Over-Seas League Scholarship for a New Zealand Chamber Ensemble.

Finally, they are greatly anticipating their trip to the United Kingdom to perform in London, Edinburgh and at the British Isles Music Festival.
