Join us at the Mercury Bay Museum for a historical Matariki!
Entry will be free for the entire whanau to enjoy a day at the museum. There will be some great activities for the kids, and it’s the perfect opportunity to check out the new exhibits that are on display for a limited time. Incase you haven’t been in for a while, you can stop in and appreciate the Taonga exhibit that has not long been open to the public.
Matariki signals the Māori New Year. It is a time of renewal and celebration in Aotearoa New Zealand that begins with the rising of the Matariki star cluster. This is the first year that New Zealand has acknowledged the Maori New Year with a public holiday, so why not celebrate a moment of history, at a place of historical significance!
