Intuitive Collage Workshops with Naomi Azoulay
Naomi Azoulay is a middle-eastern-born, Auckland-based award-winning portrait artist. She holds a BA in Art History and is a self-taught artist. Naomi creates captivating, bold, intimate and vibrant analogue collages and oil paintings, aiming to tackle social justice issues, decolonise the art space and expand the definition of beauty. In addition, Naomi runs collage workshops and community events promoting creativity and spreading the gospel of intuitive collage.
Intuitive Collage is a relaxing and highly therapeutic art medium; it's a great tool to process difficult feelings, quieten the mind, and elicit a state of deep relaxation, with the subsequent relief of stress and anxiety. It allows self-expression for those with no prior experience in the arts. For creatives, however, collage can be uniquely inspiring and means of artistic exploration. In this course, we will make several collages from printed material. Participants are encouraged to be spontaneous and intuitive; This creative process is flowing, forgiving, and without technical challenges whatsoever. This course runs in an inclusive, relaxing, and supportive manner and has a non-judgmental approach - there is no right or wrong; it's all about individual aesthetic preferences. This collage course echo tikanga Māori values such as whanaungatanga (connection), manaakitanga (compassion), hauora (wellbeing), and kotahitanga (unity).
