Howick Little Theatre presents Howick Little Plays, a smorgasbord of eight 10-minute plays, showcasing the best of international, NZ and local award-winning playwrights.

For a copy of all 8 scripts, email the office: info@hlt.org.nz. Auditions for each play will take place at different times. To register, please email vic.leilua@outlook.com.
There is the opportunity to be in one, or ideally two plays.

The ages should be treated as guidelines.

Conceited Council Consents by Myles Lind: Comedy Noir (1M, 2F) Directed by Beate Wiebel
Set in a local district council and drawing on the film noir genre to create a hilarious contrast between the pettiness of planning permission and the god-complex of the people involved.

Lifetime by Angie Farrow: Drama (1F, 1M) Directed by Beate Wiebel
Written by award-winning playwright, former theatre Professor at Massey University and President of Playwrights Association NZ - experience a lifetime of love, loss, happiness and tragedy played out in minutes.

Two Woofs for Yes by Neil Walden, Comedy (1F,1M) Directed by Sho Okumoto
Brenda hopes to contact her dead pets in the hope that they witnessed her late husband’s scheming. A joyously silly tale of two con artists trying to get what they can: one of them just happens to do a lot of animal voices.

Menage a Trois (1000 feet) by David Evans: Comedy (1F, 2M) Directed by Sho Okumoto
Jane is having an affair and opts to tell her husband during a charity parachute jump, with unforeseen consequences.

Sorry by Emma Pitt: Drama: (1F 30-40s), (1M teen/20s) Directed by Sho Okumoto
A burglar and his victim come to terms with his actions. Poignant and thought provoking.

Driving Mr. Diddy by Mandy Bannon: Comedy (1F 60s) (2M 60s & 20s) Directed by Vic Leilua
Retirees Margaret and Brian are out for a drive when suddenly they are car-jacked. Chaos and contemplation ensue.

Beer Window by Neil Walden: Drama (1F, 1M) Directed by Vic Leilua
This comic take on Hitchcock’s classic suspense thriller Rear Window finds Ben confined to his room with a bad leg and taken to spying on his neighbours. When his partner, Sophie visits him he tells her that he is convinced he has witnessed something highly suspicious.

The Power of the Sandwich by Grahame Maclean: Comedy (2M) Directed by Vic Leilua
Dave is a happy, decent guy, living in in an apartment on the 15th floor of high-rise block. Broderick, who has been shielded from normal society by an over-protective mother, is outside…. on his window ledge.

Rehearsals: Either Monor Thursday nights or Sunday daytime.
Season: 4 - 7 October, including matinee on the Sat

Beate Wiebel
After having directed Tiny Beautiful Things for HLT Studio in 2021, Beate is looking forward to joining the friendly atmosphere of Howick Little Theatre again. She has directed Dinner for One (2015) and Seat of Power (2011) for the One Act Play Festivals at Ellerslie Theatre. Beate has also directed student theatre at schools in Sydney and Auckland, in both German and English, including plays by Molière, Agatha Christie, and modern playwrights. Contact: wiegap@xtra.co.nz

Sho Okumoto
Sho has been involved in several HLT productions this year including as Stage Manager for HLT Studio's Precious Little and as an Assistant Stage Manager for The Book Club Play and A Murder is Announced. Directing has been a dream of Sho's and earlier this year he was able to be mentored as a director on The Book Club Play. He is excited to be directing for the first time and can't wait to bring the writer’s vision to life for people to enjoy. Contact: shoguun1@gmail.com

Vic Leilua
Vic has directed The Long Weekend (2020) at Dolphin Theatre, The Death of Me (2019) for the One Act Play Festival at Ellerslie Theatre and The Love List (2015) at Howick Little Theatre. In 2018 Vic directed Good People at the Howick Little Theatre, which was awarded the Best Production.
