The first Saturday in August is International Blues Music Day. A group of the country's finest are assembling to celebrate in Tauranga. Expect a night ranging from earthy acoustic Mississippi Delta blues to electrifying funky Chicago blues, with stops off everywhere in between.
Singer/guitarist Mike Garner has played blues festival all around the world and won awards for his blues songwriting. He has released a series of blues albums that have been played on blues radio stations around the globe. He is particularly noted for his slide guitar playing.
Derek Jacombs (vocals / guitar) and Grant Bullot (harmonica) are members of leading New Zealand blues band Kokomo, which specialises in a specifically Kiwi form of blues. Together as a duo they come on like Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, with never a dull moment.
