"Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori".

Join us as we celebrate Matariki with an exhibition of paintings, drawings, music, video, lights and more.

Evening celebration event: 6-8pm Friday 21st July.

This year we will draw inspiration from the nine whetu/stars of Matariki.

Matariki - the mother star, health and wellbeing

Pohutukawa -represents the spirits of the dead

Tupuanuku - associated with the food grown in the ground

Tupuarangi - food from the sky and is linked to birds

Waiti - connected to fresh water and living creatures in the rivers, streams and lakes.

Waita - associated with the ocean and represents food gathered from the sea

Waipuna-a-rangi - connected to the rain. The name itself means "water that pools in the sky"

Ururangi - connected to the wind. The name means "the wind of the sky"

Hiwa-i-te-rangi - the final star is hiwa-i-te-rangi which is connected to the prosperous season.
