The ‘Finalists Concert’ of the Dunedin Concerto Competition in partnership with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and the Dunedin Youth Orchestra (DYO) is here with three young musicians, Boudewijn Keenan (cello) playing Tchaikovsky's 'Rococo Variations', Elio Oh (violin) playing Sibelius's 'Violin Concerto', and Cameron Monteath (piano) playing Poulenc's 'Piano Concerto', conducted by Anthony Ritchie
The DYO, conducted by Nathaniel Otley performs the infectious Latin-American rhythms of Marquez’s “Danzon No.2” and the power and majesty of Sibelius’s “Finlandia”, along with new works by New Zealand composers’ Grace Shaw, Maddy Parkins-Craig and John Rimmer in the first half of the concert. The DSO, with some DYO members in its ranks, accompanies the finalists in the second half of the concert.
Wonderful music brilliantly played, and three talented and aspiring young soloists. A celebration of our musical youth not to be missed accessible at affordable ticket prices!
