Critically acclaimed ensemble The Queen’s Closet, a 17th-century musical company for the 21st century, presents an exciting new programme, Echoes: Musicking across the centuries.
The music of Henry Purcell had a profound and long-running influence on 20th-century English composer Benjamin Britten. Over the course of his career, Britten delighted 20th-century audiences with his own new adaptations and realisations of Purcell’s music. This programme is not just a play on the fact that both Britten and Purcell composed pieces on the concept of an echo, but a homage to the special relationship between the music of two composers 250 years apart.
