A voyage into the past, to that territory of the heart we call childhood.
In the idyllic beachside community of Te Parenga - a golden township in the land of milk and honey lives a precocious twelve year old boy who is about to discover that their idyllic childhood, like those long glorious summer holidays, cannot last.
The End of the Golden Weather is a seminal piece of Aotearoa/New Zealand theatre history. It is arguably, the first play to bring our voice to the world stage. Originally intended as solo piece (which Bruce Mason performed 986 times across the country), the play subsequently has been adapted by Raymond Hawthorne for ensemble performance, a challenge undertake by our Basement Company. As Aotearoa/New Zealand finds its place in the global community once again in flux and with an increasingly partisan society - we feel this is a ripe time to restage this classic of our stage with a company of fresh voices attached to it.
